At some point in their lives most people will turn to some ‘alternative/holistic’ therapy of sorts. This may be because they’ve been diagnosed with a serious illness or disease, they are suffering from pain, depression, or they can’t find out what is wrong with them. But it’s usually after mainstream medicine has failed them in some way. These people are usually at the end of their tether, who are desperate, looking for answers and that makes them vulnerable.
The trouble is when we are at our most vulnerable is when we are most likely to be taken advantage of. Although regulations have been tightened up, the holistic/alternative therapy market is largely unregulated and this can lead to disreputable practitioners making all kinds of claims about their abilities to cure us of our ills. I’ve had people try it with me, I’ve even had people carry out fake ‘strength’ tests on me, showing me how much stronger I am once I’ve drunk their special water or something.
I am a registered healer not a miracle worker and although people have some incredible results from healing sessions, I will not offer to cure you because actually that isn’t what healing is about. As healers we can certainly offer the physical transmission of energy that comes about from a healing session, which may well have a positive effect on your energetic body, we may well be able to get you to relax so that you feel less pain, you may well experience a great night’s sleep after a treatment and I’m certainly not downplaying the beneficial effects a healing session might have, but the truth is that real healing comes from within you.
Only once you understand that can you really be empowered over your own health, how else do you think that spontaneous remission and the placebo effect works? Somehow the body’s self-healing mechanisms have been triggered and the body is healing itself, just like it’s designed to do. So whilst a visit to a healer might trigger those self-healing mechanisms, but be under no illusion, it is you doing that ... not the healer.
So remember, a good healer should work by a strict code of conduct, they should not allow you to develop a dependence on them, they should help you to feel empowered over your own health, they should advise you to always seek medical help first and they should certainly not offer to diagnose or ‘cure’ you.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some amazing healers out there doing fantastic work, but make sure you find one who inspires you, empowers you and truly does help you heal.
Sending love and healing thoughts to all those struggling right now. X
