My father's death from cancer changed my life in many ways I could not have imagined at the time. It forced me to confront my own mortality and made me realise there had to be more to life than the materialistic world in which I existed.
My journey of discovery has opened up many doors for me and changed my entire view on 'life'. Most significantly my definition of success has changed. Where I once measured my success in materialistic terms, I now consider how I might view my life when I'm near the end. Think about it, it changes your perspective doesn't it? You're not going to be remembering all those late nights at work or what car you drove, or how many facebook likes you got! No, right at the end, when it really matters, you'll be thinking of precious moments with loved ones and time spent doing what you really loved and were passionate about. Because the most precious gift we all have is time, and whilst we may not be able to control how much of that we have, we can certainly choose how we spend it.
So start asking yourself this question 'At the end of the day, if I carry on as I am, will I have spent most of my time doing things I love or hate?' When you have the answer to that you can measure how truly successful you are.
